Hi! I'm Ali Smith

I'm a soft-spoken, passionate, people-loving introvert who loves to travel, write, and collect typewriters. I’m originally from the Kansas City Missouri area, but I grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. I obtained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication, with an emphasis in public relations from Pittsburg State University in May of 2015. I am continuing my education at PSU in the Masters of Arts in Communication program and working as the Coordinator of Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy at PSU.

Finland Spring 2013

During the Spring 2013, I spent the semester as an exchange student in Jyväskylä, Finland at the University of Jyväskylä.

Finland Summer 2014

I spent May and June of 2014 in Jyväskylä, Finland taking courses at the University of Jyväskylä . I took Educational Cultures and Cultural Anthropology.

During my semester study abroad at the University of Jyväskylä, I went on a trip to Kiev, Ukraine with the Communication Department

Students for Violence Prevention

Students working to raise awareness on campus about issues such as: dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and bystander behaviors.

Gorillas In Your Midst

We are a Peer Health Education group interested in reaching our peers concerning various social issues through interactive skits, performances and presentations in order to help them make healthier, more informed decisions.

We are a group of college students concerned about issues of injustice. We raise awareness about International Justice Mission and the reality of the injustice of human trafficking that is in the world.

Dead Man's Cell Phone Program

As the public relations and advertising manager for the Pittsburg State University Theatre Program, I created and layed out the program for each production. All of the advertisements inside the program are from local businesses that I sold advertisement space to at the beginning of each season. Dead Man's Cell Phone was put on in April of 2014 and was the last production of the 2013 - 2014 season.

My grandparents home was destroyed in the Joplin tornado in 2011. They both survived the tornado, but my grandma's health began declining rapidly afterwards. I wrote this poem after she died the next year.

This study examines how social media effects relationships and uncertainty reduction. Research was primarily concentrated on Facebook and romantic relationships. Uncertainty reduction theory and social information processing theory are examined in the light of new technologies and social networking sites.

The Dinosaur Musical production was my first production in this position in the Fall of 2013.

Enemy of the People was the second production of the 2013 - 2014 season and was put on in February.

You Can't Take It With You Theatre Program

As the public relations and advertising manager for the Pittsburg State University Theatre Program, I created and layed out the program for each production. All of the advertisements inside the program are from local businesses that I sold advertisement space to at the beginning of each season. You Can't Take It With You was the first production of the 2014 - 2015 season and the last production in the Memorial Auditorium Theatre before PSU Theatre moved to the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts.

Eurydice was the final production of the 2014 - 2015 season and the first production to be held at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts in the Miller Theater.
